MEET Alicia

Alicia Hexham, BA

I am Alicia Hexham, founder of Alicia Hexham Wellness, and creator of The Healthy Kid Formula program and community. I started on this journey to help others find healthy solutions that work for their specific body’s needs and lifestyle because of my own health journey.

I struggled in my teens with migraines, cystic acne, painful periods and out-of-whack cycles, amongst other symptoms that my doctor and specialists deemed “normal teenage things”. I went on the birth control pill and took prescription pain killers prescribed to me as a way to solve these annoying “normal” hormonal issues.

Then as I entered my 20s and I started to struggle with break-through cycle bleeding, low energy, constipation, and weight gain. Once again, my doctor and specialists increased my birth control dosage, added antidepressants, and told me to call my local diet clinic where I went on a 700 calorie per day diet that wasn’t based on healthy, whole foods, but was focused on processed packaged foods.

As I entered my 30s, I looked for guidance again from doctors as I struggled with fertility, miscarriage, and painful joints. Once again, I was given prescription drugs with nasty side effects, and felt like I was broken.

It wasn’t until I had my daughter who struggled with her chronic health symptoms as a newborn, that I started to look into the why behind our symptoms, versus silencing them like I did for the previous 20 years with prescription drugs and poor eating habits. With a whole new focus on helping my daughter avoid the same health path that I had, while also now addressing an autoimmune diagnosis at 35 years old that was leaving me bedridden, I became determined more than ever to try and figure out how to choose a better health plan. In my research, I understood that symptoms weren’t my body letting me down, but were actually messages from my body acting as warning signs that I needed to focus on allowing for some major changes that supported my digestion, nutritional absorption, lifestyle habits, and balancing of my hormones. My research and newer understanding of the body allowed me to become the healthiest I have ever been in my life, while also addressing my daughter’s symptoms (aka warning signs) that changed her from a chronically sick child to one of the healthiest kids I know! I am no longer on prescriptions, I am able to handle pushback and dismissive conversations with my doctor, and can now understand how to address symptoms and illness that comes up with more mutual and effective solutions.

After graduating from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in Spring of 2018, and completely changing my career trajectory from the corporate world to a full time Registered Holistic Nutritionist, where I share my relatable experience and health lessons with easy-to-understand scientific explanations that provides clients with the last puzzle piece missing to achieving their best health.
