Ginger Soda
Ginger Ale and I got to know each other pretty good during my pregnancy. If I could have a cup of Ginger Ale before eating I could actually enjoy my meals since the ginger it contains helps treat nausea, relieves morning sickness during pregnancy, and aids in digestion. Ginger is also able to help treat migraines, maintain bodily hydration levels, and manage rheumatoid arthritis due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties.
However, I didn’t like relying on something that was so high in sugar so I had to find some healthier alternatives. This recipe became, and remains, my go to. It is simple and refreshing, while also allowing me to avoid artificial flavourings and high amounts of processed sugar that I would get in the store-bought brands.
Ingredients
1/2 lime or lemon
1 cm ginger root
250 ml soda water
Optional: 1tsp of maple syrup or 1-2 drops of stevia if you need it sweeter
Slice the lime, or lemon, in half.
Juice half of the lemon or lime into a glass.
Grate some ginger root into the same glass.
Optional: add in sweetener
Fill the glass to the top with cold soda water and stir.
Enjoy served cold!
